In It But Not Of It

Black Sheep

After Jesus was arrested, He was taken before Pontius Pilate who asked Him what He had done to be arrested.

John 18:36
Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.”

We are instructed to be IN this world, but not OF it. (Romans 12:2, John 17:15-16) There are going to be constant outside pressures placing the heat on us to conform, but we are called not to bow down to pressures of the world. But rather to recognize that we bow down to a different King.

Dr. Tony Evans provides a great  illustration that captures the essence of this instruction. He says that a boat is made to be in the water but not of the water. If the boat begins to be of the water and starts taking on water inside of it, it will soon go down.

How many times have you felt overwhelmed, even flooded by the water of the world coming in to your life?
