Here is another good song to get you thru some of the heartbreak you might be experiencing—whether it’s waiting on God to come thru and answer your prayers or being denied something you thought you really needed. It comes from one of my favorite Christian artists, TobyMac. Hope it encourages you as much as it encourages me. (Lyrics below the video.)
Being patient and waiting on God’s timing. If you’re like me, this is something I fail in pretty much every day.
So why does God continually subject us to this aspect that He just knows we’re always going to come up short in? What is, or what could be the point to all this torment? Okay, I get it—letting go and letting Him work it all out, right?
Well, maybe there’s more to it than just that.
The sales clerk that gives you unjustified attitude as you make a purchase from their store. The manager who doesn’t respect your presence in the workplace. The neighbor that doesn’t discipline their kids for leaving trash strewn about your property.
How difficult is it to love people like this despite their apparent flaws? INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT. Continue reading
When I’m at work, I like to zone out to some good house music. The power of song can get us thru tough times or rough seasons in life. And it’s even more powerful when you’re listening to a catchy tune and hear subtle Gospel-oriented lyrics unexpectedly tossed in to a mix. It brightens up the day and provides encouragement, especially in the toxic workplace that I find myself in currently. Continue reading
I find what Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 12 about dealing with difficulty quite inspiring and encouraging. Even though God may not completely remove us from a troubling issue pressing upon our hearts, He often joins us in the midst of the storm to provide the strength we need to overcome it.
2 Corinthians 12:7b-10
Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
There is a phrase that goes, “When the going gets tough, the tough go shopping.”
In other words, a lot of people turn to the god of retail therapy to help them through tough times. Or they find various other things to take the mind off of worries. But the true Christian understands that when the going gets tough, the tough go to their knees and pray. Continue reading
In spite of the various controversies which surrounded this year’s Summer Olympics before and during the events, there have been a lot more positive stories that came out of Rio. And one of those things was that despite great odds, God’s grace always shined through.
And how cool was it that many of the athletes this year were unashamed to speak up about their faith and belief in Jesus Christ! These athletes were decorated in not just gold, but in God’s glory. The Today Show would usually interview these athletes following an event to get their reactions to winning gold or dealing with a challenge, difficulty, etc. It was refreshing to see some of these athletes not just count their accomplishments, but count their blessings as well.
Now even though the original Olympic games were organized tributes to the Greek gods of the ancient world, these modern Olympics we have become accustomed to have transitioned into a stage for our God to display His awesome power through so many incredibly talented athletes.
Here are just a handful that I took note of recently. And these aren’t just the only ones. God was hard at work in many gifted men and women this year!
